US employers react to laws. The HWB will convince employers to prevent & correct health-harming abusive conduct. The WBI HWB campaign began in 2001. WBI State Coordinators create groups of Healthy Workplace Advocates to lobby legislators.
From June 1997 until the present, the Namies have led the first and only U.S. organization dedicated to the eradication of workplace bullying that combines help for individuals via our websites & over 10,000 consultations, telephone coaching, conducting & popularizing scientific research, authoring books, producing education DVDs, leading training for professionals-unions-employers, coordinating national legislative advocacy, and providing consulting solutions for organizations. We proudly helped create the U.S. Academy of Workplace Bullying, Mobbing & Abuse.
We started as the Campaign Against Workplace Bullying in Benicia, CA in 1997 and evolved into the Workplace Bullying Institute, now headquartered in Bellingham, WA.
WBI was the first, and remains the only, U.S. organization dedicated to the eradication of workplace bullying via the convergence of three focus areas. We combine (1) help for individuals with content-rich websites and personal professional coaching, research (producing world-class WBI studies as well as interpreting relevant work by others), authoring books, public education through speeches and over 1100 media interviews, training for professionals-unions-employers (the Workplace Bullying University), (2) legislative advocacy to enact the anti-bullying Healthy Workplace Bill in states, and (3) consulting solutions for organizations.
WBI Grew a Team
We initially accomplished the early work as the founding couple. As our work expanded into advocacy for the Healthy Workplace Bill, we came to count on a dedicated team of volunteer State Coordinators to do the work on the ground in their state capitols. We added staff to support Coordinators. We added a licensed counselor to provide the coaching for individuals that we used to handle by ourselves. Technical staff were hired when it became apparent Gary's html coding skills were left in the dust. Those brilliant techies also produce our inhouse videos and webinars. Everyone at WBI necessarily multitasks. Most of us answer the phones and help battered and bullied targets.
Our Financial Needs
In order to maintain our independence and integrity while still paying the bills, we do not commercialize our websites -- no ads. Instead, we prefer to create products for targets and employers who have different reasons for seeking help and advice. But pride cannot shield us from ripple effects of the tough economic times we all face.
The WBI workload is overwhelming as demand grows exponentially because of those tough times.
During the summer of WBI's 15th Anniversary, we have designed a way for you to help us. Please support our efforts by sending us a dollar for every year we have worked to stop workplace bullying. We call it $15-for-15. Any contribution, no matter how small, is greatly appreciated. The campaign will last until Labor Day. Contributions to WBI are not tax deductible at this time.
We hope you believe the work is important and our accomplishments worthy of contributions, however modest. Hence the slogan for the fundraising campaign: $15 for 15 Years. If you can give more, you will receive gifts to show our appreciation.
