Workplace Bullying Bill New Website Launched
![]()
We started the Legislative Campaign to enact the anti-bullying bill in states in 2001. In 2010, we will add to the count the 17th state to introduce some version of the bill thanks to the grassroots network of HWB Coordinators in 27 states and 2 provinces. The new website becomes the single source of info about the legislation for lawmakers, potential sponsors, citizen lobbyist volunteers. and media. Visit
The Healthy Workplace Bill website.

I think the work place bullying law should take in effect especially when the economy is horrible.
I am secretly experience at my job. other people persecute me because of my physical appearance. other co-workers poke fun at me at work, they said i was ugly and they work against my. I work so hard at my job as a customer service representative. they change the rules on me . other co-workers set me up to fail when assisting customers at hurt my performance. when I ask for help, I am being insulted and humiliated. I am afraid to speak up because other co-workers who torment me have contacts that can set me up to get fired so they an have their friends in the door
I am very thankful for what you guys are doing here at workplacebullying.org. I feel like bullying is a very large problem and many people think it’s just at the grade school level, so I’m glad you’re raising awareness that it reaches to the adult workplace as well. On the note of raising awareness, there is an anti-bullying poster contest going on over at Brickfish that I’d like to bring your attention to. If you’d take a couple seconds and vote for my entry, we might be able to raise even further awareness about this issue. You can view and vote for my entry here:

Thank you for what you’re doing,

How do you get the “health care” field to realize they are running off excellent nurses? The nurses with the most experience and bedside knowledge are being run off by these newcombers that don’t settle in all the way, make a big stink, then leave themselves before the crap comes down. The bullies in “health care” are the charge nurses, get the recognition for some small idea the rest of us were already doing and get their gang to push us out. The real nurese, the ones that really care; empathetic, sympathetic and will give you pain medicine are being fired because they aren’t caring in a faster fashion. Nursing isn’t how many people we can run throuh the system each day it’s about CARING and LISTENING and giving a damn when they are sick. I pray for the day a law is placed so that the nurses that give 110% at the bedside are saved from the lazy slacking, shortcutting, demoralizing, unethical things that “show up for a paycheck”. They’s packingin all the glory and paychecks while we’re packing in the pills and therapy sessions because we’re the ones with the problem. GO team WBI!! GO!!
I am a legal secretary in Baltimore and am in the process of being fired because I finally, after 10 months of bullying by a serial abusive, angry, vindictive office manager and 3 bullying co-workers, fought back. This has been the worst work experience of my life, which is saying something because I was terminated in late 2008 from a large law firm for my political activism. I recognized the bullying for what it was immediately and took steps to protect myself, but ultimately there is nothing you can do to stop bullying by someone who holds the power of your job and uses it to abuse. I know and work with Maryland state legislators on many issues and it is my mission to get the Healthy Workplace bill introduced in this legislative session which starts this week in Maryland. If I don’t fight what has happened to me and do everything I can to prevent its continuance, the psychological and physical harm this year of bullying has done to me will be for nothing. I must fight back. I also must find a new job.
I have been a State Employee (Payroll Department) for 4 years. I have had numerous recommendations and very good evaluations for the past 3 ½ years. I have even saved the State over $89,000 in payroll errors. Recently we got a new supervisor and for the past 6 months my life was hell. I am now on medical leave (lost 20 lbs.) due to the hostile work environment and the bullying. I am going to be 61 years old this year. I had one more year left before I would receive a pension from the state and now I don’t know what to do!
No matter what they say when you apply for a job and you’re at a certain age there is no hope. My doctor told me I could go back to work if they would transfer me to another department. I wanted to put in the transfer request but since I am on medical leave, the college Human Resources said it is not allowed. This new supervisor has written me up for finding payroll errors as well as telling me to change my personality, it was too friendly. Management and Human Resources for the state do not care about the working employees. I know I am not the only one who has been through this type of bullying in the workplace.
The recession has seen a big increase in bullying at work. According to recent studies, bullying and harassment currently affects one in ten employees. It is disruptive, for the individual and business, as well as affecting people’s personal lives and wellbeing, it can also lead to increased levels of absence, reduced productivity and low staff morale, not to mention post traumatic stress disorder.
I did talk to one state delegate and he said there was nothing they can do, so if they can not help who can.
Thank you and have a nice day.
Pat,
Sorry to say your case demonstrates the double-whammy-slam-against-the-wall that is workplace bullying. You need to transfer but mgmt and HR keep you trapped. You are the wounded mouse that the cat likes to toy with for her own amusement. Not that you will have much success, but find an attorney willing to write a letter threatening an age discrimination case. They know what they are doing when you are one year from a pension. Go out on short-term disability (never Workers Comp) and heal while you pursue solutions. If you roll it into long-term, the year will be up and you can leave with your pension. The bastards. What state? GN
It is in the State of Maryland! I have been out on short term disability, and I have been emailing and calling Human Resources/Employee Relations in regards to my disability and benefits. They have ignored my calls and emails, and as of today I receive a termination letter due to my medical disability.
When a new manager comes in to a workplace and states “I will fire you” if you chart under someone eles name (we are nurses) or sts “I will can your ass” if you chart under someone eles name. Do you feel this is workplace bullying?? We do!! What should we do?? We are professionals and being spoken to in this manner brings down the morale. Our previous boss was a doll…kind and compassionate. (she was promoted) HELP!!
I am being bullied by my supervisor. I am also a supervisor. Now it has escalated to hitting me. What should I do?
the boss and the company should always maintain good employee relations to have a more efficient environment~~.
